Jhansi (UP), Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel said on Thursday that universities must continuously upgrade themselves to keep pace with changing technology and requirements and maintain academic quality.
“Universities must remain constantly ready to learn, innovate and improve their quality,” she said, noting that technology and requirements change rapidly and maintaining academic standards requires continuous upgrading.
While presiding over the 31st convocation of the Bundelkhand University, the Governor directed Bundelkhand University to develop “garbh sanskar” initiatives to educate female students about pregnancy, nutrition, healthy lifestyles and the importance of a positive environment.
She urged graduating students to work against social evils such as dowry and child marriage and to contribute to blood donation, rural development, health awareness, literacy and other social services. “The degree in your hands also increases your responsibilities towards the nation. Wherever you go, use your knowledge, talent and hard work for nation-building,” she said.
“Today’s convocation is a celebration of the beginning of a new chapter of service to the nation and society after the long pursuit of discipline, hard work and knowledge during student life,” Patel addressed the graduating students.
She urged students to use their education and talent for nation-building and social service.
“The university is a laboratory for creating responsible citizens. Every student who graduates from here should carry not only knowledge but also sensitivity, service and social responsibility,” she said. On the performance of women students, the Governor said, “We are proud of the success of our daughters and are happy to see them move forward, but education must also aim at building a balanced, inclusive and excellent society.”
She said both boys and girls needed to be educated and empowered to maintain social balance.
The Governor directed the university to introduce skill-development certificate courses based on students’ interests and local requirements to complement education with employment-oriented skills.
She also asked the university to set up a campus shop for products developed by students and link them with the Yuva Udyami scheme. Under initiatives associated with the Governor, 900 anganwadi centres in Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba and Chitrakoot received anganwadi kits.
A total of 1,200 girls, including daughters of police personnel, were also administered HPV vaccines. Patel interacted with the girls and explained the importance of vaccination. PTI
