Kanpur: The daughter of a rice mill businessman threatened self-immolation at the Police Commissioner’s office on Thursday, alleging that her husband and in-laws stripped her naked, subjected her to occult rituals and assaulted her. She also alleged that her father-in-law committed obscene acts with her while she was locked in a room with him.Police teams from several stations, including Mahila Thana, Kotwali and Sachendi, reached the spot and persuaded her to abandon the threat. She remained adamant on meeting Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal, who later assured her of a fair investigation.The woman’s father said he married his only daughter to the son of a Congress leader from Pandu Nagar on March 16, 2024, spending Rs 5 crore on the wedding, including a Fortuner and gold and silver jewellery. She alleged that her in-laws demanded 1kg gold, deluxe furniture and a house after the marriage.She had lodged an FIR at Mahila Thana on March 29. The probe was handed over to Panki Inspector Dinesh Singh Bisht.
