Prayagraj: The Sangam City continued to reel under oppressive heat and humidity on Monday, emerging as the hottest place in Uttar Pradesh during both the day and night.Prayagraj recorded a maximum temperature of 43.3 degrees Celsius — the highest in the state and 5.3 degrees above normal — surpassing even Banda, one of the worst heat-hit districts this summer, which recorded 41.4 degrees Celsius. The city also registered the state’s highest minimum temperature at 30.8 degrees Celsius, leaving residents with little respite from the sweltering conditions.High relative humidity further worsened the situation, with levels fluctuating between 31% and 53%. The moisture-laden atmosphere made conditions unusually sultry, causing intense sweating and discomfort even when temperatures dipped slightly under intermittent cloud cover.Although thin clouds persisted through parts of the day, they failed to provide meaningful relief. Instead, they added to the humidity, intensifying the sticky weather without triggering rainfall.Residents said the only relatively pleasant period was during the morning hours, when cool easterly winds offered brief respite. However, as the day progressed, the breeze weakened and the city remained trapped in a mix of heat and humidity. The hot and humid conditions also made indoor life difficult. In many areas, even fans and coolers proved ineffective as high moisture levels reduced their cooling efficiency. The situation was aggravated by frequent power outages and tripping reported from several localities amid soaring electricity demand, forcing residents to contend with both extreme weather and erratic power supply. With Prayagraj topping the state in both maximum and minimum temperatures, Monday turned out to be one of the most uncomfortable days of the season for residents. However, meteorologists have predicted similar weather conditions over the next two to three days, with rainfall likely between June 26 and 28.
