Jaipur: Consumers who have had their power supply permanently disconnected due to non-payment of dues won’t be able to obtain another electricity connection in the name of a family member, thanks to a new system developed by Jaipur discom. There are more than 30.1 lakh PDC (permanent disconnected connection) consumers across the state’s three discoms, who owe more than Rs 1,880 crore. Ajmer discom accounts for 12.66 lakh of them, Jaipur for 9.24 lakh, and Jodhpur 8.18 lakh. Discoms chairman Aarti Dogra said, “Recently, we tested the system in one sub-division and found the results effective in curbing the menace that causes huge losses to discoms. We have started rolling out the initiative in other sub-divisions as well.”According to the discoms’ rules, domestic consumers become PDCs if their dues are not cleared within two years, while for industrial and commercial customers the period is one year. A senior official of Jaipur discom said the feeder in-charge will be given a list of PDC consumers in their respective area. “The data regarding the due amount and house of the default customer has already been pre-fed into the system. The feeder in-charge will geo-tag the location, which will enter the database of PDC consumers in the module,” he said. The official said the module will be linked to the New Connection Management System (NCMS) and JEN Site Verification Application. “As soon as an application for a new connection is made at the address of the PDC connection, the JEN who goes for site verification will come to know that there was a PDC connection in some other name in the past,” the official explained.
