Varanasi: The mythologically and religiously significant Pishachmochan Kund (pond) is in for transformation by Varanasi Nagar Nigam, said municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, after site inspection of the area on Sunday. He directed officials to clean the pond and beautify the pathway around it. He said devotees from far-flung areas should get world-class facilities at the ponds of Kashi.He asked for attractive wall painting along the pathway and benches at various spots. He also directed the construction of canopies (sheds) in vacant spaces along the pathway for protection from sun and rain, so that pilgrims faced no inconvenience. To enhance grandeur of the kund at night, fancy street lights will be installed along the entire pathway.Nagpal directed officials to develop a special and well-organised site towards the temple for Chhath Puja. He said that, keeping in view the crowds that throng during festivals, proper arrangements should be ensured in advance.Keeping in view city’s traffic and beautification arrangements, Nagpal asked officials to activate water fountains at the Dashashwamedh-Godaulia intersection. On demand of locals and tourists, existing solar lights on the road leading to Dashashwamedh Ghat would be replaced with brighter fancy lights. Directions were given also to repair the damaged stones (chauka) at Holika Dahan site near the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple gate.
