Noida: Two alleged members of the Sundar Bhati gang were arrested following a police encounter during a joint operation by Ecotech-I police and the GB Nagar crime branch on Sunday night. Illegal firearms and cartridges were recovered from their possession, police said. The accused were identified as Dharmendra alias DK (32), a resident of Knowledge Park in Noida, and Arjun (28), a resident of Pandav Nagar in Delhi.According to Pravin Ranjan Singh, DCP (Greater Noida), the police teams received specific intelligence that two active members of the gang, a syndicate officially designated as a mafia group by the district administration, were present near the Yamuna bund in Gharbara village and were planning to commit a crime. Acting on the tip-off, teams from Ecotech-I police station and the district crime branch reached the location and began checking the area. When the suspects spotted the police, they allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. Police personnel retaliated, after which the two accused were overpowered and taken into custody. No injuries were reported during the operation. Officials said two illegal pistols along with live and spent cartridges were recovered from the accused during the arrest. Police added that both Dharmendra and Arjun have prior criminal records. They were earlier booked in cases including attempt to murder under Section 109(1) of BNS, along with provisions of the Arms Act.
