Dharmapuri: More than 250 families in ward 8 at Anna Nagar in Veerappannayakkanpatty panchayat on Sunday threatened to boycott the upcoming state assembly election, stating no elected representatives have taken any step to provide them basic facilities like roads, drainage, electricity and drinking water. The residents said they had made several representations to the collector, tahsildar, block development officer and the village administrative officer to ensure basic amenities in their locality, but with little success. They said the lack of infrastructure was severely affecting their daily lives. “During monsoon season, waterlogging is a common issue,” said M Rajavel, a villager. The residents said in the recent spell of rain, streets were flooded with rainwater mixed with sewage, causing them hardship. “We had to deploy electric motors to drain the stagnant water. There was official help. If basic amenities are not provided before the upcoming election, we will boycott the same.”
