Salem: A couple was arrested on Sunday, for stabbing a man to death in Ponnammapet in Salem city early on Sunday morning.The arrested have been identified as Ashok alias Kuppan, 36, and his wife Mayilu, 34, of Pandiyan Street in Ponnammapet. The deceased has been identified as Gopal, 40, of Sunnambukara Street in Ponnammapet.Police said Gopa was suspicious that his wife Vanitha, was having an extramarital affair with Ashok. Gopa and Ashok used to frequently quarrel over the issue for the last three years.Around 9pm on Saturday, Gopal and Ashok argued and fought near the Chinna Mariamman temple before heading to their homes. A while later, around 11.30 pm, Ashok, Mayilu, and his brother-in-law Muniyappan went to Gopal’s house and confronted him.“During the clash, Ashok stabbed Gopal in his chest with a knife, causing heavy bleeding. Gopal was rushed to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital; however, he died on the way,” said a police officer from Ammapet station.Ammapet police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Vanitha. Efforts are on to arrest Muniyappan who is absconding. Meanwhile, the couple has been remanded in judicial custody.
