A tree got uprooted during rain in Moovathoklu village, Kodagu district

Madikeri: Monsoon season that began slowly in June has intensified in July, raising hopes among farmers and growers in Kodagu. The district recorded 32 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, due to continuous rain. In the Cauvery zone, Bhagamandala received 77 mm, while in the Lakshmana Theertha zone, Srimangala recorded 60 mm and Ponnampet 75 mm.Heavy rain caused several incidents. A tree fell on a scooter owned by Sindhu of Betoli village. The rider sustained minor injuries and was admitted to the district hospital in Madikeri, and officials visited the spot.A house belonging to Leela in Bilikikoppa village partially collapsed. In Shirangalli village, under Garvale gram panchayat, a large rock rolled down due to rain and wind, damaging a farmhouse. The walls of Sachin’s farmhouse were affected, and village administrator Chaitra inspected the site.A tree also fell across the Moovathoklu-Kote Hill connecting road, disrupting traffic. Locals removed it, and no major damage was caused as there was no traffic at the time.Regarding school holidays, Kodagu deputy commissioner Somshekar said tahsildars and BEOs have been empowered to declare holidays in rain-hit areas. He added that district minister UT Khader, during his visit on Sunday, instructed officials to take necessary steps during the rainy season.
