Mysuru: In a major relief for working couples, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has announced that it will conduct early-morning visits during the next phase of the Gruha Jyoti beneficiary verification drive to ensure that eligible households are not left out of the process. The verification exercise was recently launched by ESCOMs to identify and remove ineligible beneficiaries under the Gruha Jyoti scheme. However, the absence of an online verification mechanism raised concerns among employed residents, particularly working couples, as their homes often remain locked during regular office hours when field staff conduct door-to-door visits.“The city has a large population of working couples, especially those living in apartments and rented houses. Earlier, beneficiaries could register online to avail themselves of the scheme. Since many return home only in the evening, there were concerns that they might miss the verification process,” said Hemant Kumar, a teacher.According to CESC managing director Archana MS, “We are aware of the concerns raised by working residents. Our staff will revisit houses that remain unverified during the first round and conduct verification in the early morning. No eligible beneficiary will be left out of the process.”BLOs leave contact details at locked housesWorking couples are also facing difficulties in completing formalities under the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. However, officials said residents can contact booth-level officers (BLOs) if they encounter any issues. “If a BLO finds a house locked during a door-to-door visit, a sticker carrying the BLO’s name and mobile number is pasted on the premises. As per the procedure, the BLO makes up to three visits to distribute and collect the enumeration form. Residents can contact the BLO using the number provided on the sticker and complete the verification process at a mutually convenient time,” said a BLO involved in the SIR exercise.
