Madhepura: A minor girl was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at her hut in Lahi village under Shankarpur police station in Madhepura district on Sunday. The incident occurred when victim Khushbu Kumari (10) was helping her elder sister prepare a meal in their thatched kitchen, while their parents were out for farm work. The thatched wall of the kitchen caught a spark from the furnace, resulting in a devastating fire that engulfed the hut. The elder sister narrowly escaped, but the victim was trapped in the fire. Local people rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire but the hut was burnt to ashes. They pulled out the victim but she was already dead. Local police took the body in their possession and sent it to Sadar Hospital, Madhepura, for a postmortem, said Shankarpur station house officer (SHO) Raushan Kumar.
