Udupi: A 46-year-old man was shot dead in the early hours of Friday following a dispute over financial transactions in Kundapur.The deceased was identified as Ivan Richard Mascarenhas, a resident of Barkur.SP Hariram Shankar said that between around 12.45am and 1am, Ivan and Derrick Crasta of Kundapur were engaged in a long mobile phone conversation regarding financial matters. As the conversation escalated into a heated argument, Derrick allegedly challenged Ivan to “come alone to Kundapur if he had the courage.”Following this, Ivan reached the location and parked his car on the concrete road opposite Holy Rosary Church on Church Road. At the same time, Derrick arrived at the spot in his vehicle.As soon as he stopped the vehicle, Derrick allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Ivan below the waist in his leg, the SP said. Ivan bled heavily from the gunshot wound and died at the scene.On receiving information about the incident, a police team visited the spot and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered at Kundapura Town Police Station under Section 103 of the BNS and Sections 3 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act, he said.“The accused fled the scene following the incident. We have formed three special teams to track down and arrest the accused, and efforts are currently underway. Scene of crime officers (SOCO) and other technical experts have visited and inspected the spot. The deceased’s body has been sent to forensic department at Manipal for post-mortem and further procedures. We will arrest the accused soon,” the SP said.
