Kanpur: Police on Friday afternoon arrested a man in connection with the murder of his wife and mother-in-law in Chandethi village under Bharthana police station in Etawah, during an encounter. According to police, Satyendra allegedly conspired to kill the two women to avoid paying a court-ordered monthly maintenance allowance of Rs 7,000 and a settlement amount of Rs 3 lakh.According to SSP Brijesh Srivastava, the accused, Satyendra Yadav, who was posted as a sanitation worker in the panchayat department in Aligarh, married Chandethi resident Manju Yadav alias Nirmala in 2021. After a marital dispute, Manju started living at her parental home. She and her mother filed a case seeking maintenance and alleging domestic violence against Satyendra.During interrogation, Satyendra told police that the court had ordered him to pay his wife Rs 3 lakh in cash and Rs 7,000 per month as maintenance. His in-laws were preparing to approach the court again to seek an increase in the maintenance amount to Rs 25,000 per month. To avoid these payments, he planned the murder of both women.Police said a .315-bore country-made pistol, three live cartridges and one spent cartridge were recovered from Satyendra’s possession.
