Jaipur: Police arrested a 24-year-old man in Sriganganagar Sunday and seized a cache of illegal firearms and ammunition allegedly linked to gangsters operating from abroad, officials said.Superintendent of police Hari Shankar identified the accused as Khushpinder Singh, a resident of Dabwali. Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted him and recovered three illegal weapons — a modified Glock pistol of estimated 9mm bore with a magazine, another modified 9mm pistol with a magazine, and a .32 bore pistol along with two magazines. Police also seized three live cartridges and three empty shells of 7.65mm calibre.Shankar said the probe has also revealed the role of a Dubai-based gangster, though officials have not disclosed the individual’s identity.During interrogation, Singh told investigators that the weapons belonged to his associate Jagmeet Singh, who has been absconding abroad along with his accomplices. He said Jagmeet contacted him around two years ago through encrypted messaging platforms such as Snapchat and Signal, and informed him that pistols and cartridges had been concealed near a field close to a village. Singh was allegedly asked to retrieve the weapons and keep them safe.Police said communication between the two stopped about 15 days later, leaving the accused in possession of the firearms. Police suspect Singh was trying to shift the weapons to another location.The accused also revealed he remained in touch with several criminals from Sriganganagar region who are now based overseas. Jagmeet Singh, named by the accused, has been on the run for three years.
