Kanpur: Kotwali Sadar police on Sunday arrested a man accused of snatching a woman’s purse in Unnao on July 1.According to SSP Jayaprakash Singh, the complainant, Tara Singh, a resident of the Kalyani Devi locality in the Civil Lines area, was returning home when the accused allegedly snatched her purse and fled the spot.In her complaint, the woman alleged that the purse contained a mobile phone, a bunch of keys and Rs 9,500 in cash.During the investigation, police analysed CCTV footage and gathered other technical evidence to identify the accused. The accused was eventually arrested during a routine checking drive near Kanshiram Sudhapuram Colony on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Sameer, a resident of Umeedon ka Shahar, Unnao.Police recovered the stolen mobile phone, a bunch of keys and Rs 1,000 in cash from his possession. Based on the recovery, Section 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was added to the case.Police said the accused has a criminal history and that another case had been registered against him at Kotwali Sadar police station in 2025. Officials said that after questioning the accused, necessary legal formalities would be completed and he would be produced before the court.
