Kanpur: A 42-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in the Naubasta police station area after he allegedly refused to give money for liquor to a local youth.According to police, the deceased, Hemant Kumar Verma, left home at around 3am on Friday, saying he was going to drink alcohol.His brother told police that at around 5am, Hemant returned home in a blood-soaked condition with injuries on his head and body. He allegedly told his family that a youth from the area had asked him for money to buy liquor, and when he refused, the youth called his companions, who assaulted him with bricks and stones.The family took him to Kanshiram Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.On receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.

Naubasta police station in-charge Bahadur Singh said a case would be registered, the accused would be identified, and strict legal action would be taken against them.He added that police are also examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the accused.
