Kanpur: The heavy showers disrupted normal life in several parts of the city on Friday. City has received 232.8 mm rainfall so far. The highest rainfall ever recorded in Kanpur during the month of September was 443 mm in 1981. A significant record of 150.8 mm of torrential rainfall within a 24-hour period was also registered on September 13, 2022.According to the Meteorological Department and historical data, the normal average rainfall in Kanpur for the month of September is 169 mm.Continuous showers on Friday brought down the maximum temperature to 25.6°C, around 5°C lower than Thursday’s 30.6°C. The minimum temperature also dipped to 21.2°C.While the rain brought relief from humid and sultry conditions, prolonged showers forced many residents to remain indoors. Those who ventured out had to negotiate waterlogged stretches, pothole-ridden roads in several areas.Residents are unlikely to get respite from the wet spell soon, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rain on Saturday.Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across all districts of Kanpur division over the next 24 hours.According to the IMD forecast, the monsoon is fully active over the division, with dense cloud cover likely to prevail over most areas and a strong possibility of continuous rain and thundershowers. Medium to heavy rain has also been forecast during Friday night.CSA University weather expert S N Sunil Pandey said, “Weather conditions may range from light rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds to heavy and continuous rainfall,” Pandey told TOI.He said three weather systems had combined to trigger the widespread spell of rain — a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal that moved towards Odisha, a cyclonic circulation over northern and eastern Uttar Pradesh, and a western disturbance.
