Agra: The Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, has estimated total power generation of 2,040 billion units during 2026-27, of which 325 billion units (16.25%) are expected to come from renewable energy sources, excluding large hydro projects.The data was shared from the CEA’s load generation balance report on the second day of a three-day workshop on renewable energy organised by the Earth Journalism Network in Agra on Friday.On Thursday, former UP New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) director and Sultanpur district magistrate Inderjit Singh said via videoconferencing that renewable energy is set to bring major transformation to UP’s environment, waste management systems and the economic condition of farmers.“UP has a very bright future in renewable energy and can soon become the country’s leading state in rooftop solar projects,” Singh said.He said large-scale conversion of waste into energy could help address both waste disposal and pollution, besides creating new opportunities for farmers and the rural economy.During the workshop, Nicole Almeida of CEEW said the renewable energy sector would help generate 44 lakh jobs, of which 12.8 lakh would be long-term jobs.
