Gurgaon: With just days left for voters to file claims and objections against the draft electoral roll, nearly three out of every four applications received in Gurgaon are still pending processing, with applications seeking inclusion of names accounting for the biggest backlog.Data from the state election department for Aug 1 to Sept 23 shows Gurgaon received 34,282 applications under forms 6, 7 and 8. Of these, 24,749 — 72.2% — were still pending as on Sept 23. Across Haryana, the three categories together saw 4,49,300 applications, of which 2,19,729 (48.9%) remained pending. For every 100 form 6, 7 and 8 applications received statewide, about 49 remained pending. In Gurgaon, that figure was 72.The sharpest concern is Form 6, used for inclusion of names in the electoral roll. Of 21,417 Form 6 applications received in Gurgaon, 17,479 (81.6%) were pending, while only 3,097 had been updated in the electoral roll — a pending share substantially above Haryana’s 53.9%, where 1,31,426 of 2,43,501 Form 6 applications remained pending.Gurgaon accounts for only 8.8% of all Form 6 applications received statewide, but its 17,479 pending cases make up 13.3% of the state’s 1,31,426 pending Form 6 applications.The backlog is not confined to new registrations. Gurgaon received 12,006 Form 8 applications, primarily covering corrections and shifting-related changes, of which 6,803 (56.6%) remained pending — against a statewide pending rate of 43.5% (76,409 of 1,75,658 applications). Gurgaon contributed about 6.8% of Form 8 applications received statewide, but 8.9% of the pending cases.Even applications seeking deletion of names are moving slowly: Gurgaon received 859 Form 7 applications, of which 467 (54.3%) were pending, compared with 39.4% pending across Haryana (11,894 of 30,141 applications received statewide).Within Gurgaon’s pending Form 6 applications, 3,299 were still unprocessed by the AERO, 4,753 had been processed and assigned to BLOs, 3,599 were at the field-verification stage and pending with the AERO, and 5,233 were pending with the ERO for further action.For Form 8, 1,370 applications were unprocessed by the AERO, 1,469 had been processed and assigned to BLOs, 1,529 were awaiting action after field verification, and 1,476 were pending with the ERO for further action.“The election department has also scheduled another special campaign on Sept 26 and 27, with BLOs available at polling stations from 9am to 5pm to receive forms 6, 7 and 8,” said an election officer, adding that all pending work would be completed before the deadline.
