HISAR: A 32-year-old Delhi Police head constable died after allegedly being hit by a bullet fired during celebratory firing at a Jalva Pujan ceremony in Hansi’s Sidhwan Khas village on Tuesday night. The firing is alleged to have involved a Haryana Police CIA staffer and his associates.The deceased, identified as Amarjeet, a resident of Rojhla village of Jind district, was hit in the thigh and suffered serious injuries. He was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to a private hospital in Hisar, where he died during treatment on Wednesday night.Police registered a case on the complaint of Amarjeet’s wife, Rinku, naming two people and booking others in connection with the incident. The accused are currently absconding, police said.According to Rinku’s complaint, she and Amarjeet had gone to Sidhwan Khas on Tuesday night to attend a Jalva Pujan ceremony for her maternal uncle’s son, Ankit. Around 10 pm, Sidhwan Khas resident Surender and his friend Manoj, a resident of Bhiwani, were also present at the event.Rinku alleged that Surender, Manoj and some of their associates were firing weapons in the air when one of the bullets struck Amarjeet in the thigh. He fell to the ground and sustained serious injuries, following which family members rushed him to a hospital. After receiving initial treatment, he was referred to Hisar, where he died during treatment on Wednesday night.Amarjeet was a head constable with Delhi Police and was the father of a six-year-old daughter. He was the youngest among six sisters and four brothers.Police said Surender is posted with a CIA unit of Haryana Police. His exact posting and alleged role in the incident are being examined as part of the investigation.Hansi police said a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and other sections. Police teams are conducting raids at possible locations to trace the accused.
