NOIDA: An 11-year-old girl was run over by a tractor in Aliwardipur village, Greater Noida, on Monday morning. The accident took place around 11am when the child, who had come to her aunt’s house with her mother and sister to celebrate Eid, was walking through a narrow lane. The incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera.Alafiya was playing with her cousin Tooba in a narrow lane outside the house at the time. CCTV footage shows a tractor-trolley loaded with construction material idling behind a dumper that was parked in the lane. The driver inches forward and suddenly loses control of the vehicle, ramming into where the girls were walking on the side of the lane.Alafiya was crushed under the wheels of the tractor, sustaining critical injuries. Her cousin Tooba was also trapped under the tractor, but did not sustain any injuries. Passersby and neighbours rushed to their aid immediately and pulled both girls out from under the tractor. Alafiya was brought to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.The tractor driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene after the incident. Police received information about the case, and a team reached the spot. The body was taken into police custody, and autopsy results are awaited, cops said, adding that the tractor-trolley has been seized.According to Ecotech-3 police station SHO Ajay Kumar, the girl’s family filed a police complaint in the matter, and an FIR was subsequently registered in the case. Police teams are conducting raids to identify and arrest the absconding driver.Family members said that Alafiya was studying at a school in Ghaziabad, where she resided with her family. Her sudden death has left the family devastated, and mourning replaced what was meant to be a festive occasion, the family said.
