Kanpur: The water level of the Ganga, which rose by 26 centimetres in Shuklaganj, is nearing the warning point following rainfall in hills.In Shuklaganj, the water level was recorded at 112.18 metres on Aug 19 and it rose to 112.44 metres by Aug 23, which was 56 cm below the warning point of 113 metres. The danger mark is at 114 metres.On Sunday, 5,44,373 cusecs of water was discharged from Ganga Barrage towards Prayagraj. The water level at Ganga Barrage was also rising also rose rapidly.On Sunday, the upstream water level was recorded at 113.83 metres and the downstream level at 113.68 metres. The warning point there was 114 metres and the danger mark was at 115 metres. The upstream water level was recorded 17 centimetres below the warning point and the downstream level was at 32 centimetres below it.In view of the strong current and rising water level, bathing and boating at the ghats were banned.Police have put up barricading and warning boards at the ghats, and deployed personnel around them. People have been stopped from bathing in the Ganga and going near the water.
