Kanpur: A 55-year-old retired Army personnel shot himself with his licensed gun in Barra’s Damodar Nagar on Sunday, police said. He was taken to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.The man, identified as Rambabu Rajput, a resident of Barra Damodar Nagar, retired from Army 13 years ago. He was working as a guard at a bank in Pukhrayan in Kanpur Dehat district.His family includes his wife Santoshi, daughter Neha, who is married, and son Suraj. Suraj, who has passed intermediate this year, said his father retired in 2013 and was under depression for the past few days.Around 3 in the afternoon, his father was resting in the room, he said. On hearing the sound of a gunshot, he went to the room upstairs with his mother and found his father lying in a pool of blood. After informing the police, he took him to the hospital with the help of neighbours, where doctors declared him dead. According to doctors, the bullet blew away Rambabu’s head and jaw, resulting in his death.Barra police station in charge Ravindra Kumar Shrivastava said it seems to be a case of suicide due to depression. However, his family has not yet revealed the cause of his depression.Suraj said that in the afternoon his father asked him to order ‘dosa’ and ‘pani ke batashe’ for him. He then sent Suraj downstairs to bring plain paper and a pen. While Suraj was bringing paper and pen, he heard a gunshot. He rushed upstairs with his mother and found his father lying in a pool of blood.
