Vadodara: A gang that used to steal ASIB cards from mobile towers in the city has been busted by the detection of crime branch (DCB). Cops have arrested three men and seized cash from the gang along with a car.According to police officials, the accused identified as Puransinh Rathod, Rajesh Padhiyar and Sanjay Koli had good knowledge of how mobile towers operate. “Rathod and Padhiyar are technicians working for a mobile tower company. They used to maintain around 30 mobile towers in Bhayli, Sevasi, Sherkhi and Sindhrot areas,” added police officials.Koli used to work as a supervisor in a mobile tower company and was given charge of Vadodara and Chhota Udepur. Cops said the accused knew the value of parts used in mobile towers and that selling them would fetch a good price. So, the trio planned to steal ASIB cards (core control units) from mobile towers and sell them off in the open market.The police said that they stole the cards from five different mobile towers and recently sold one of them for Rs 50,000. The cops had received a tip-off after which they detained the accused near Gajrawadi area and questioned them. They admitted to having stolen ASIB cards from various mobile towers. Two offences of theft have been registered against them at Atladara and Gotri police station.
