Vadodara: A 27-year-old from Anand, Dhvit Mehta has charted a remarkable journey—from coding labs in India to a corporate stint in Europe, and ultimately to the pinnacle of academic excellence at IIM Bangalore, where he won a gold medal and earned a place on the institute’s prestigious Wall of Fame.Dhvit is only the second Gujarati to win a gold medal for academic performance at IIM Bangalore, following Aditya Shah (PGP 2022–24).His journey began at Anandalaya School in Anand, where he completed his schooling in 2016 before pursuing a dual degree in computer science (BTech and MTech) at IIIT Allahabad. Drawn to coding from a young age, he chose the institute over closer options in Gujarat to gain stronger technical exposure. By the time he graduated in 2021, he had already set his sights on a career in technology.He stepped into the professional world during the pandemic, starting with a US-based cloud company before moving to Microsoft. In July 2022, he relocated to Norway as a software engineer. Over nearly two years, he grew in the role, earned a promotion and appeared set for a stable global tech career.However, even as he thrived in coding, Dhvit found himself increasingly drawn to finance. Keen to explore this interest, he took on the demanding Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme alongside his job, clearing Levels I and II without coaching — a feat that would later prove crucial.The turning point came in 2024, when he made a bold decision to quit Microsoft Norway and return to India to pursue an MBA.His tryst with management entrance exams had begun earlier. In 2021, with minimal preparation, he scored 98.5 percentile in CAT but chose not to join IIM Indore. When he reappeared in 2023, he secured calls from top institutes, including IIM Bangalore. Initially waitlisted, he eventually made it to the PGP programme.At IIM Bangalore, Dhvit stood out in a highly competitive batch, many from IITs and other premier institutions. His consistent academic performance, combined with his CFA background, gave him a distinct edge in finance.That journey culminated on March 27, 2026, when, at the institute’s 51st convocation, he was awarded the gold medal for academic excellence. As his name was etched onto the Wall of Fame, it marked not just personal success but his entry into an elite academic legacy.“For me, this is not just my achievement — it reflects the support of my family, friends and faculty at IIM Bangalore,” Dhvit said.Now set to begin his career in investment banking with a Mumbai-based firm, his journey marks a complete transition — from coding to capital markets. He credits his CFA qualification for enabling this shift, helping him break into finance despite his engineering background.
