Varanasi: In view of the Iran-Israel conflict and the tense situation arising in Gulf countries, Varanasi divisional commissioner S Rajlingam on Thursday held a meeting with divisional managers, area managers/sales managers, chief managers of all oil companies, chief manager of GAIL (India) Limited, Varanasi, and the district supply officer to obtain information from oil companies regarding LPG supply in the district to ensure smooth supply of LPG.In the meeting, sales officers of the oil companies said that domestic gas cylinders are being regularly supplied to consumers. However, the booking backlog has increased, due to which delivery time has gone up, they said.Regarding commercial gas cylinders, they said that permission was received in several phases to supply to essential areas, and accordingly, upon PNG applications by institutions/establishments related to those areas, commercial gas cylinders are being supplied to them based on their applications and demand. The commissioner directed the chief manager, GAIL (India) Limited, Varanasi, to ensure immediate update on the portal for providing acknowledgement receipt to those applying for PNG, so that consumers can attach the receipt and demand LPG cylinders from the oil company.The oil companies were directed that if any false information is published, immediate cognisance should be taken and if the information is found to be incorrect, a rebuttal should be published, and in case of genuine issues, it should be swiftly resolved and positive news should be published.Directions were also for a meticulous assessment of educational/medical institutions and hotels/restaurants etc operating in the city and unnecessary delay in gas supply to them should be avoided in view of a large influx of tourists and pilgrims in the city. The companies were also directed to publish their helpline numbers on which commercial and domestic consumers can report their problems/complaints, and to ensure their immediate and proper resolution. The numbers issued are: ‘Indane Gas (Indian Oil Corporation Limited)’ – 7004147913 and 9140213317, ‘Bharat Gas (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited)’ – 8960895554, and ‘Hindustan Gas (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited)’ – 8655436745.Commissioner further directed all sales officers to regularly inspect gas warehouses and ensure that underweight cylinders are not supplied to consumers.
