Ahmedabad: Chandkheda police on Wednesday arrested four persons for allegedly indulging in online betting during the T20 World Cup match between South Africa and Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.The arrests were made during routine patrolling inside the stadium after senior officers directed teams to maintain strict vigilance against illegal betting during high-profile matches.

In the first case, Satkar Dipkumar Shah (38), a businessman from Gandhinagar, was detained from Block 7, Bay 1 (Upper) around 4.35pm for allegedly placing live bets using a mobile application. His phone and screenshots were seized as evidence.Rahul Bulani (28), a resident of Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra, was caught from the same block around 3.20pm for allegedly using another betting app. Police confiscated his mobile phone and secured screenshots.Earlier, Nitin Patel (40), a Thaltej resident, was apprehended from Block F, Bay 2 (Lower) around 2.40pm for allegedly betting online during the match. In a fourth case, Vishwadeep Jate (30) from Anand district was detained from an upper seating block for allegedly placing bets through a website.All four were booked under relevant sections of the Gujarat Prevention of Gambling Act. Police said further investigation was underway to trace the source of the betting IDs and possible links to larger syndicates.
