Ahmedabad: The standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday approved a proposal to implement 33% reservation for women in all future recruitments in the civic body, marking a significant policy shift aimed at increasing women’s representation in municipal services.Standing committee chairman Devang Dani said the decision would apply to all upcoming recruitments by the AMC. “In future recruitments by the AMC, a provision for 33% reservation for women will be made. The standing committee approved this to ensure women are prioritised in upcoming recruitment advertisements,” Dani said.

Apart from the recruitment policy, the committee cleared development works worth an estimated Rs 216 crore across the city. The approved projects include the construction of Urban Health Centres (UHC) and Sub-Health Centres (SHC) in Hathijan. The committee also granted approval for infrastructure upgrades, including replacement of bearings under bridges, improvements to water supply and drainage systems, and works related to four bridges.Addressing traffic concerns, AMC officials said the civic body had earlier sought feedback from the traffic police to ease congestion at key junctions. Based on the suggestions received, the traffic police recommended opening around 85 left turns across the city. Of these, 55 left turns have already been opened to facilitate smoother vehicular movement.The committee also announced that the Danapith fire station and its parking facility will be opened to the public by the end of Feb. Meanwhile, the new school board building will be inaugurated on Friday (Feb 13) by chief minister Bhupendra Patel. On the same day, nine new AMTS buses will also be flagged off, officials said.
