Kanpur: Police busted a gang involved in trickery and fraud with the arrest of five miscreants and seized fake gold necklaces, cash worth Rs 24,500, and tools used in the fraud from their possession. The action was carried out under the directions of superintendent of police Abhishek Bharti.Additional superintendent of police Alok Mishra said that the arrested accused have been identified as Bheem Bhat, Gulshan Sharma, Poonam, Devli Sharma, and Rajwati. Jitendra Kumar, a resident of village Hisawa under Mangalpur police station area of Kanpur Dehat, filed a complaint at Dibiyapur police station on Jan 12 stating that some people sold him a fake gold necklace on Jan 5. Police immediately registered a case and initiated an investigation.During interrogation, the accused revealed that they target villagers and women at fairs, grain markets, and crowded bazaars. They claimed to be owners of an old treasure and sold fake necklaces to them. To gain trust, they would show a small piece of real gold.Acting on a tip-off, Dibiyapur police along with SOG/Surveillance team arrested all the accused on Saturday, from near Brahmadev Temple located on Ajmatpur Road. Legal proceedings are underway. Inspector in-charge Rudra Narayan Tripathi, sub-inspectors Samit Chaudhary, Kuldeep Kumar, and Arvind Kumar Gupta, along with other police personnel, were involved in this operation. TNN
