MLC Ivan D’Souza visits Sunkadakatte near Urwa Store in Mangaluru on Saturday, to hear the grievances of the public about inadequate water supply.

Mangaluru: In response to the severe difficulties faced by the public due to the inadequate water supply in the Sunkadakatte area near Urwa Store in the city, MLC Ivan D’Souza visited the place on Saturday and heard the grievances of the public. He held an on-the-spot discussion with officials from the water supply section of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).During the visit, local residents complained that despite continuous rainfall, drinking water is being supplied only through a rationing system, and that water is available only between midnight and 6am. Furthermore, they pointed out that due to insufficient water pressure, water is not reaching many homes. They noted that this is causing significant hardship for families with small children and those who need to leave for work. Additionally, residents expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the water being supplied, noting that borewell water is provided instead of clean drinking water, and they demanded an immediate, permanent solution to the issue.Ivan urged the officials to take the necessary steps to provide 24-hour continuous supply of drinking water to residents of the Urwa Sunkadakatte area. He said that since many homes lack sump or tank facilities for water storage, he would discuss the distribution of water tanks to poor and needy families with the district administration. The MLC added that he would soon meet the deputy commissioner to submit a request for necessary action toward a permanent solution to this problem. Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, local activist Chethan Urwa and residents were present.
