Arushi Severin Helen D’Silva, a student of St Aloysius Pre-University College, won the Karnataka State Under-19 Girls Chess Championship at the FIDE-rated state meet held in Kalaburagi

Mangaluru: Arushi Severin Helen D’Silva, a student of St Aloysius Pre-University College, won the Karnataka State Under-19 Girls Chess Championship at the FIDE-rated state meet held in Kalaburagi. A student of St Aloysius Pre-University College, Arushi secured the title with eight points from nine rounds, finishing ahead of the field in the Karnataka State FIDE-Rated Under-19 Girls Open Chess Championship 2026.Arushi recently crossed the 2000 FIDE rating mark, reaching a peak rating of 2008, and earned the Woman Candidate Master (WCM) title. Earlier this year, she finished runner-up at the 2nd FIDE-rated rapid chess tournament in Shivamogga, with a score of 8/9. She has also recorded multiple top-three finishes in state-level age-category events.Introduced to chess by her father Anand D’Silva, she was trained at Derricks Chess School and is currently coached by IM Sharan Rao and WGM Isha Sharma. Arushi credited her elder sister for encouragement, and her mother for constant support, and said she aims to compete at the international level.
