Mandya: Director General of Police (prisons) Alok Kumar conducted a surprise inspection of Mandya district jail and also visited Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Hospital following allegations of lapses in the security arrangements of an undertrial who was admitted to the hospital.The inspection followed an incident in which assistant director of land records (ADLR) Mohammad Hussain, an undertrial in judicial custody, was found with a woman visitor in a separate room at MIMS during a surprise inspection by district sessions judge C Chandrashekhar and State Legal Services Authority member-secretary Shashidhar Shetty on Monday.The DGP spent nearly three hours inspecting the jail before visiting the hospital and examining the makeshift ward where Hussain was treated. He directed MIMS director and medical superintendent to take steps to establish a dedicated jail ward at the hospital at the earliest. He said the existing makeshift arrangement is inadequate for safely treating inmates, and asked the hospital authorities to act on the request already submitted by the jail authorities seeking a dedicated jail ward.The DGP also directed DIG (southern range) Divyashree to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged procedural lapses and submit a report.A District Armed Reserve constable, who was posted for security duty at the hospital, has since been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty.
