Jamshedpur: In a major push to curb urban road accidents and streamline traffic management, DC Rajiv Ranjan on Saturday chaired a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials of Tata Steel, TSUISL and representatives of concerned agencies.The high-level session focused on identifying the root causes of urban road crashes, implementing rapid safety measures at accident blackspots, and building a seamless, accident-free transport network for commuters.“Achieving permanent road safety requires a highly coordinated, goal-oriented blueprint shared between the district administration, the police department, the Tata Group, and technical experts,” the DC said. Project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Jamshedpur division, Vijay Kumar, said speed gun cameras will be installed at seven identified locations within two months to monitor speed limit violations on the highway.The joint committee discussed critical structural changes across major intersections and high-density commercial routes. Key proposals included standardising “Left Free” lane provisions at intersections to prevent pile-ups, installing high-intensity street lights, placing robust road dividers and sliders, upgrading automatic traffic signals, developing systematic parking zones in major markets, and launching public awareness campaigns to ensure compliance with traffic rules.To ensure disciplined execution, the DC divided the proposed interventions into three timelines. The short-term plan will be executed immediately to fix shortcomings ahead of Durga Puja and ensure smooth movement during the festive traffic surge.Under the medium-term plan, medium-scale infrastructure changes and core traffic management protocols will be introduced in phases over the next 90 days.For the long-term plan, Tata Steel’s technical experts will conduct a comprehensive, data-driven engineering survey of the urban road network. Their findings, structural suggestions and scientific recommendations will be compiled into a master report and submitted to DC Office.After submission of the technical survey, a joint review session involving the administration, police and corporate stakeholders will finalise the long-term execution roadmap.District police, traffic and transport officials, along with senior administrative officers, attended the meeting.
