Bokaro: Drones flew over open land near Surya Mandir in Sector 4F on a mission of hope, as DPS Bokaro launched a seed-bombing drive under its ‘Go Green Initiative’. Led by principal AS Gangwar, eco-volunteers dropped more than 500 seed bombs across barren patches, drawing residents who stopped to watch the unusual green exercise.The seed bombs, made with soil, natural cow dung manure and locally suitable seeds, contained neem, sal, palash, mahogany, ashoka and arjun. Once monsoon rain softens the ground, the seeds are expected to germinate and gradually turn empty stretches into pockets of greenery.The programme focused on protecting the ozone layer and promoting sustainable environmental practices. Gangwar described the ozone layer as the Earth’s protective shield and stressed that environmental protection requires collective action. Referring to the theme ‘Global Action for a Cooler Planet’, he highlighted the importance of sustainable cooling technologies and expanding green cover, describing trees as the planet’s natural air conditioners.Modernisation, urbanisation and population growth have rapidly reduced the Earth’s green cover. To counter this, communities worldwide have adopted measures such as seed bombing, a technique of planting trees by embedding organic seed balls in the ground or dispersing them from the air. The method, also called aerial reforestation, helps raise awareness about environmental protection.Students and staff will continue active roles in environmental conservation through more such campus-led green drives in Bokaro.
