Dhanbad: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday called for a balanced and sustainable lifestyle to tackle growing environmental and health challenges, saying climate change, air pollution and biodiversity conservation were directly linked to human health and everyday habits.Addressing the National Environment Workshop organised by Arogya Bharati in collaboration with IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Gangwar said India’s traditional way of life had always emphasised respect for nature and harmonious coexistence with the environment.“Environmental challenges cannot be addressed through government efforts alone. Active participation of society, educational institutions, scientists, doctors, industries and every citizen is essential,” he said.Governor said simple steps such as conserving water and energy, maintaining cleanliness and adopting responsible behaviour towards nature could contribute significantly to environmental protection. He stressed that healthy living and environmental conservation were complementary.Highlighting the importance of yoga, Gangwar said it helped maintain physical health, mental balance and overall well-being. Healthcare, he said, should not remain confined to disease treatment but must also focus on prevention, healthy lifestyles, balanced nutrition, yoga and a clean environment. He also called for bringing different systems of medicine and health-related approaches together to promote holistic healthcare, while appreciating Arogya Bharati’s role in spreading awareness about preventive healthcare and healthy living.Gangwar said premier institutions such as IIT (ISM) Dhanbad could develop practical and sustainable solutions to environmental problems through science and technology. He urged greater research and innovation in water conservation, clean energy, waste management, pollution control and environment-friendly technologies. He also asked students and youth to make environmental protection part of daily life and inspire families and communities to adopt sustainable practices.
