Kanpur: The additional principal judge at the Family Court, Kanpur Nagar, on Thursday ordered the director of Education, New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), to attach a sum of Rs 10,13,200 from the funds of teacher Rakesh Pandey and ensure that the amount is transferred to the bank account of his wife, Geeta Mishra.Geeta Mishra, a resident of Kanpur, had filed a maintenance case against her husband, Rakesh Pandey, seeking maintenance. The court had fixed a sum of Rs 25,000 per month for the maintenance of Geeta Mishra and her daughter. However, Rakesh Pandey failed to pay the monthly maintenance, which has cumulatively reached Rs 10,13,200.Rakesh Pandey worked as a teacher at Nagar Nigam Primary School, Jharoda Majra, Burari. He retired on July 31, 2025.The court had earlier ordered the NDMC to transfer Rs 10,13,200 to the account of Geeta Mishra from the funds of Rakesh Pandey.The judge said that, in this regard, an email had been sent by the court to the deputy director (Education), but no communication regarding the action taken was received.“This act falls within the ambit of contempt of court,” the judge said.The court has also directed the department to inform about the action taken in this regard, failing which the court would be forced to presume that the NDMC overlooked its order to provide undue benefit to Rakesh Pandey.The court has fixed July 21, 2026, as the next date of hearing.
