Nandini Sharma set for Lord’s Test debut

Chandigarh: Chandigarh pacer Nandini Sharma is on the cusp of realising every cricketer’s dream as she is likely to make her Test debut for India in the one-off women’s Test against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground Friday.If named in the playing XI, Nandini will become the first player from the UT Cricket Association (UTCA) to represent India in a Test match at the historic venue, popularly known as the ‘Mecca of Cricket’, marking a proud moment for Chandigarh’s cricketing fraternity.While UTCA’s Kashvee Gautam has previously represented India on the international stage, Nandini’s appearance at Lord’s would be a first for any UTCA player in a Test at the iconic ground.The Chandigarh pacer shared photographs from the BCCI’s pre-match photoshoot in the Test jersey with UTCA ahead of the match. The Indian team also underwent an intensive practice session Thursday as it fine-tuned preparations for the contest.Expressing confidence in the young cricketer, UTCA president Saraansh Tandon said, “Seeing a UTCA player on the verge of making her Test debut at the iconic Lord’s is a matter of immense pride for all of us. Nandini has earned this opportunity through her outstanding performances and we are confident she will make Chandigarh and the nation proud.”Nandini’s expected debut reflects Chandigarh’s growing presence in Indian women’s cricket and serves as another milestone for the city’s cricket development programme.
