Mandya: A car was gutted after it caught fire on Bengaluru-Mysuru NH near Induvalu on the outskirts of Mandya on Sunday. The two occupants of the vehicle had a narrow escape.The car, bearing Bengaluru registration plates, belongs to Sankad, a resident of Mysuru, police said. Sankad and another person were returning to Mysuru after completing work when the vehicle suddenly caught fire while in motion. Noticing the flames, both occupants immediately stopped the car and managed to get out safely. Within moments, the fire spread rapidly and engulfed the entire vehicle.The car was reduced to ashes before fire and emergency personnel reached the spot. Firefighters subsequently brought the blaze under control and prevented it from spreading further. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.Car crashes into dividerMeanwhile, a Kerala-registered car crashed into the divider on Bengaluru-Mysuru NH near Old Budanuru in Mandya after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The impact was severe enough for the car to breach the highway divider and veer onto the adjacent service road. Fortunately, the two occupants escaped with minor injuries. The accident caused concern among other motorists on the busy road. The damaged vehicle was later moved from the spot to allow smooth movement of traffic. Mandya Rural police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. The exact circumstances leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle are being ascertained.
