Hassan: High drama prevailed at the ‘Prajaseva Andolana‘ grievance redressal meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Saturday, when a farmer attempted suicide in front of excise minister KM Shivalingegowda.The farmer is Karigowda, 34, of Attavarahosahalli village in Hassan taluk.According to police, Karigowda had come to submit a petition regarding a land dispute. He alleged that he was being harassed by neighbouring landowners over the issue, and that despite approaching the authorities several times, his problem remained unresolved.While approaching the minister to submit his petition, he allegedly attempted to end his life by trying to consume unspecific liquid, but his attempt was thwarted.Superintendent of police Shubhanwita and other police officers who were present at the venue immediately shifted him in an ambulance to hospital for treatment.The incident triggered panic for a while at the meeting, which was convened to hear public grievances and dispose of them on the spot.
