Kanpur: A 40-year-old man who was called to Naubasta police station for questioning in connection with a harassment complaint allegedly drank toilet cleaner in the police station washroom on Tuesday night.According to Naubasta SHO, the father-in-law of a woman from the area filed a complaint against Ashish, alleging that he had been calling his daughter-in-law from different phone numbers. He also alleged that Ashish threatened to kill her and her family members when they objected.In connection with the complaint, police had summoned Ashish for questioning on Tuesday afternoon, but he did not turn up. He reached the police station only around 11.30pm with his friend Sahaj and was allegedly drunk.Police said Ashish created ruckus on the premises and refused to leave when asked. Later, he sought permission to use the washroom, following which a constable escorted him to the toilet, where he picked up a bottle of toilet cleaner and drank it.His condition deteriorated and policemen rushed him to Kanshiram Hospital where doctors referred him to LLR Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital’s ICU, police said.DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said an inquiry is underway into the circumstances under which the man consumed the toilet cleaner.
