Margao: A day after AAP’s Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas confirmed that his party was ready for an unconditional alliance with Revolutionary Goans, state BJP president Damodar Naik brushed aside the development. He said the ruling party had little interest in the political manoeuvrings of opposition parties.“Whatever happened between them, they only know. BJP doesn’t bother much about what happens in other parties. We are focused on strengthening our party,” Naik said. The remarks came in response to the buzz generated by the AAP-RG alliance announcement that emerged on the sidelines of the anti-39A protest at Azad Maidan that concluded late Thursday. RG president Manoj Parab reached out to Viegas with a proposal for an alliance between the two parties as part of a wider opposition coalition.Viegas confirmed that AAP took the proposal to party national convener Arvind Kejriwal before responding in the affirmative, declaring that the party was “ready for an unconditional alliance in the interest of Goa”.Political observers said that Naik’s measured response signalled that BJP was choosing not to read too much into the nascent opposition effort, at least publicly, preferring instead to project confidence in its own organisational work ahead of the 2027 assembly polls.
