Margao: A day after Mirabag residents gheraoed the water resources department (WRD) assistant engineer in protest against the proposed bandhara in the village, state BJP president Damodar ‘Damu’ Naik said govt would not impose any project on a village if the people did not want it.“The CM is aware of the agitation by Mirabag locals. He has been advised to look into the matter and take an appropriate decision,” Naik said.The BJP state president made it clear that the party would never impose anything against the wishes of the people. He said that while all development initiatives are undertaken for the benefit of the people, such development loses its relevance if it is opposed by the very people it is meant to serve. “Our effort is to bring about improvements, but if the people are opposed to it, then it should not be taken forward,” he added.The bandhara has been a flashpoint of locals’ opposition, with residents raising concerns about flooding in the village, leading to loss of homes and livelihoods. The agitation reached a peak when locals surrounded the WRD assistant engineer, demanding that govt drop the project.
