Chennai: Ashok Leyland on Friday said it has approved an investment of around ₹375 crore in its UK-based subsidiary Optare Plc through equity infusion in one or more tranches.The investment is aimed at supporting Optare’s business requirements, including loan repayment and other operational needs. The transaction falls under related-party norms, with promoter group entity Hinduja Automotive Ltd holding a 6.52% stake in Optare, the truck and bus maker said in a communication to stock exchanges.Post-investment, Ashok Leyland’s shareholding in Optare is expected to increase beyond the current 93%.Optare, which operates in the automobile segment, manufactures and sells buses and commercial vehicles in the UK. It also serves as the holding company for Switch Mobility’s UK operations. Incorporated in January 2008, the company reported a consolidated turnover of ₹1,232.59 crore as of March 31, 2025, up from ₹707.30 crore in FY24 and ₹229.72 crore in FY23.
