Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta said that he brought to the notice of foreign minister S Jaishankar a serious issue of youth from coastal Karnataka being deceived and trapped in Gulf and South Asian countries through fake job recruitment agencies. The MP said he met with Jaishankar on Friday in New Delhi to discuss raising awareness to enhance the safety of Indian citizens travelling abroad for employment, and to take strict measures to prevent fraud.“During the discussion with the minister, I highlighted that youth from coastal Karnataka are going to Gulf and South Asian countries with dreams of securing jobs. However, in recent years, many fell victim to cyber fraud after travelling abroad through fake or fraudulent job recruitment agencies, leading to complaints of being trapped without jobs or not receiving the expected work. I urged the minister to take necessary steps through the ministry to curb this fraudulent network,” the MP said.“The ministry should also focus on pre-departure counselling, awareness campaigns about fake agencies, and strengthening coordination with recruitment agencies. The govt should also enhance supervision systems in high-risk countries,” he said.Recently, several youths from Karnataka, including Mangaluru, went to Cambodia and faced significant trouble after falling into the trap of cyber fraudsters. Ultimately, due to the intervention and continuous follow-up by the ministry of external affairs, five youths from Mangaluru were rescued from the dire situation in Cambodia, and brought back safely to their homeland.
