Vijayapura: An aircraft flying from Kalaburagi to Belagavi crash-landed in Mangaluru village in Babaleshwar taluk, Vijayapura district, on Sunday afternoon.Referring to preliminary information, Vijayapura SP Laxman Nimbargi said that both the pilot, Capt Kunal Malhotra, AFI, and Goutham Sankar PR, a trainee pilot, jumped from the aircraft and were taken to the hospital. “They moved from Kalaburagi to Belagavi, and the aircraft belonged to RedBird Aviation. The aircraft toppled. Babaleshwar police rushed to the spot,” he added.
Sources said that both pilots of the Cessna 172 Tango Charlie light aircraft were seriously injured. “The aircraft was forced to land due to running out of fuel, and it crashed into a farmer’s agricultural land in Mangaluru village,” they added. Thousands of people gathered at the spot to see the aircraft.
