Full-time doctor to be appointedAlok Kumar said several inmates are suffering from chronic illnesses and have requested the appointment of a full-time doctor. At present, the post is vacant, and doctors from the district hospital visit the prison once a week to conduct health check-ups. “Steps are being taken to fill the vacancy, and a full-time doctor will be appointed shortly,” he said.He clarified that mobile jammers installed inside prisons sometimes lead to network issues in surrounding areas, but efforts are being made to prevent disruption beyond prison limits. He noted that prisons in Bengaluru, Gadag, Kolar, and Mangaluru are currently housing inmates beyond their sanctioned capacity. However, prisons in Dharwad and Belagavi are not facing similar overcrowding issues.
