Ahmedabad: The city continues to sizzle under an unrelenting dry spell, with Sunday’s maximum temperature hitting a scorching 40.6°C, 3.8 degrees higher than normal. Even the nights are offering little respite, as the minimum temperature hovered at a stifling 29.5°C. With Monday’s maximum temperature likely to touch 41°C, this month has firmly established itself as a scorcher, with the mercury stubbornly staying above the 40-degree mark for the majority of the days.While Ahmedabad sweats it out, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon remains stalled at Surat. However, India Meteorological Department (IMD) brings a glimmer of hope, forecasting the monsoon to finally advance into other parts of the state later this week.Relief is on the horizon. Starting Thursday, maximum temperatures across Gujarat are expected to dip, paving the way for moderate to heavy showers in Vadodara and parts of South Gujarat. Until then, coastal communities in Saurashtra and Kutch will have to endure highly humid and sticky conditions through Monday.On Sunday, Vallabh Vidyanagar took the title of the state’s hottest town at 41.3°C, closely followed by Rajkot (41.1°C), Gandhinagar (40.8°C), and Ahmedabad.
