Kanpur: In a late-night encounter on the Banpurwa–Fattepur road on Monday, police arrested three inter-district robbers accused of robbing a woman on June 21.According to police, two of the accused sustained gunshot wounds in their right legs and were admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital for treatment. The third accused, who had initially escaped, was apprehended after a chase.The arrested individuals have been identified as Akram,30, Javed Akhtar alias Chikna, 45, and Chandbabu alias Dhalla, 32 . Among them, Akram and Javed Akhtar were injured by gunfire.Police recovered a motorcycle, a country-made pistol, and the jewelry stolen from the victim.DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said that on June 21, the accused attempted to rob a woman, identified as Bindan Devi, near Govind Sweet House.The accused allegedly showed her images of her son and husband on a mobile phone, threatened to kill them, and demanded her mangalsutra and ₹600 from her purse.Police said the robbers then brandished a knife and forced the woman to sit on their motorcycle, taking her closer to her home. In panic, she retrieved gold and silver jewelry from her house and handed it over to them.Following her complaint, police began an investigation and analysed CCTV footage to identify the accused.On Monday night, police received information that the robbers were in the area planning another crime. A cordon was set up, and three men on a motorcycle were spotted on the Banpurwa–Fattepur road. When police tried to stop them, the robbers allegedly opened fire. Police retaliated, injuring two of the accused in their legs.The DCP said all three are hardened criminals booked under the Gangster Act, with several cases registered against them in Hamirpur, Jalaun, Kasganj, and Kanpur city.
