Jhansi: Major General Mandeep Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC) ofthe 31 White Tiger Armoured Division headquartered in Jhansi, was conferredthe prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by President Droupadi Murmuduring the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase-II) held at RashtrapatiBhavan in New Delhi on Monday.Major General Singh was among the 56 senior officers honoured with the AVSMin recognition of his distinguished service and contribution tothe Indian Army. A total of 105 officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force andthe Indian Coast Guard were honoured during the ceremony. The honoursincluded seven Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medals, 30 Param Vishisht Seva Medals,12 Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 56 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals.Commissioned into the 16 Garhwal Rifles on June 11, 1994, Major GeneralSingh has rendered more than three decades of distinguished service. Earlier, he was awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) in 2004 for displaying exceptional courage in operations.Over the course of his career, the senior officer has held several keycommand, staff, instructional and administrative appointments. He hascommanded an infantry battalion in the North-East and a Rashtriya RiflesSector in Jammu and Kashmir, besides making significant contributions tooperational preparedness and capability enhancement.Major General Singh also headed the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT)in Tanzania, strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.He assumed command of the White Tiger Division in Jhansi in January 2026and currently leads one of the Indian Army’s premier armoured formations.
