Kanpur: The district administration has begun preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s proposed visit to Kanpur on July 7, during which he is expected to inaugurate and lay the foundation for development projects worth around Rs 10,000 crore.Officials have started sprucing up the Nirala Nagar Railway Ground, the likely venue for the public meeting, while repair of approach roads and security arrangements are also underway. The Prime Minister’s programme, however, is yet to be officially announced.According to administrative officials, a large German hangar-style pandal will be erected at the Railway Ground for the public meeting. Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari are also expected to attend the event. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel are likely to share the stage with the Prime Minister.Keeping the PM’s security protocol in view, the administration is planning to construct five helipads. Police and civil authorities are preparing detailed plans for traffic diversion, parking, VVIP movement and crowd management. Special security arrangements will be made along the city’s key routes, while designated parking areas will be created for vehicles arriving from different districts.Officials of the municipal corporation, street lighting department and jal kal department are carrying out renovation work at the Railway Ground and nearby areas. The ground is being levelled, while painting, whitewashing and installation of streetlights are in progress.The administration has also launched an encroachment removal drive around the venue. Permanent and temporary encroachments are being cleared, and damaged roads leading to the Railway Ground are being repaired to facilitate smooth movement during the visit.Officials said the railway authorities have been verbally requested not to allot the Nirala Nagar Railway Ground for any other event till July 7.
